BREEDING TECHNICIAN

Based: Leamington Spa
For more than 70 years Guide Dogs has been transforming the lives of blind and partially sighted people, helping them enjoy the same freedom of movement as everybody else. We are proud of our worldwide reputation as a breeder of working dogs and we breed more of them than anybody in the world.
This role, which reports to the Breeding Stock Manager, is based at our Breeding Centre in Leamington Spa. As our onsite specialist in all key areas of the reproductive laboratory, you will be involved in a wide range of duties including routine cytology and other processes to assess ovulation and optimum mating times of brood bitches during their mating season. It also involves liaising with stud dog holders and other breeders to ascertain when dogs and bitches are required for mating, monitoring stud dog fertility and regularly reporting your findings.
You will need sound knowledge of canine temperament, anatomy and reproduction, probably gained in a scientific laboratory and have an innovative, questioning approach. Good communication skills are important, you must be comfortable and adept around dogs and you will be computer literate with a working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
