RESIDENCY IN NEUROLOGY AND NEUROSURGERY
Dick White Referrals (DWR) is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic veterinary surgeon to undertake a three year ECVN conforming residency in neurology and neurosurgery. The programme will comprise a major training in small animal neurology/neurosurgery, clinical research, informal Undergraduate teaching and external rotations in equine neurology. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will become eligible to sit the European College of Veterinary Neurology (ECVN) Diploma examination.
The successful candidate will join the DWR rapidly expanding team of RCVS, European and American specialist clinicians (x12) in a wide range of disciplines (anaesthesia, cardiology, clinical pathology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, oncology, orthopaedics, neurology and neurosurgery, soft tissue surgery) and the DWR team of residents (x8) and interns (x7). Dick White Referrals also has a unique and integrated collaboration and teaching programme with The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science at the University of Nottingham.
The resident will be supervised by 2 ECVN Diplomats, one based at DWR and one at the University of Nottingham. DWR has modern equipment including 24/7 availability, in-house clinical pathology laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasonography, fluoroscopy, electrodiagnostic, magnetic resonance imaging, easy and close access to CT and radiotherapy. Annual caseload for neurology is about 900, for neurosurgery about 200.
Applicants must have successfully completed a 12 month rotating internship or have equivalent experience during 2 years’ in small animal practice. The resident must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or be eligible. The programme is available from October 2010.
